Milking

Dyecrest has milked 3 X per day since 1978, using a Bou-Matic computerized milking system.  The system automatically ID’s each cow as she enters the parlor and records her production as she milks, her milking rate, what pen she was in, and other important information.  The main herd is milked in a double-20 herringbone with rapid exit.  Any animal producing un-saleable milk is milked in a separate barn, a single 8-herringbone parlor. That milk is put in a separate tank, pasteurized and fed to the calves.

Our milking team consists of 12 milkers.  Each three person crew milks all the cows in an 8-hour shift; they work 3 days on with every fourth day off.                            (click on photo to enlarge)

Dyecrest Dairy was recently honored by having one of the highest lifetime producing cows in the last decade.

The Holstein Association USA database shows that there are 27 Registered Holstein cows born since January 1, 2000 that have produced over 250,000 pounds of milk lifetime.  Eleven of these cows have produced over 265,000 pounds of milk.

Dyecrest Celius Doll-7042 holds the ninth position on the list.  She is bred and owned by Terence Dye of Fort Collins, Colo.  Doll is a daughter of 528 Etazon Celsius-ET and has produced 267,830 pounds lifetime production with two records over 40,000 pounds and a classification score of Good Plus-82.  Her dam is sired by Ricecrest Tesk Terry and produced 142,040 pounds lifetime production.
