Feeding
The milking herd is fed a TMR or Total Mixed Ration 2 X a day. It consists of the our own alfalfa hay and corn silage we purchase, plus cottonseed, liquid molasses, wet brewers from the Anheuser-Busch plant, soy best, soybean meal, steam flaked corn, hominy plus a mineral mix. Dry cows, heifers and steers are fed once a day using similar ingredients.
Aaron Highstreet is our nutritionist and he formulates all of the rations. Each ration is balanced so every mouthful eaten contains all the energy, protein, vitamins and minerals each group of animals requires for maximum milk production, growth and health. EZ Feed, a computerized feeding program gives the feeder the exact amount of all ingredients in a ration then monitors where they are fed.
